In the face of rising concern surrounding the COVID-19 virus and public health and safety, the Victoria Curling Club has suspended play for the balance of the season. Following the advice of public health officials to “flatten the curve”, the decision was made in the interests of our members and guests to minimize the risk involved in having continued play at this point in time.
This was a tough decision to make on a number of levels, as our Thunderbird Men’s Bonspiel is in it’s 68th year, and the Sooo Long has become a season ending fixture here at the Club.
There is time and effort that has been put in by staff and volunteers to make sure that these events run as smoothly as possible for our curlers, and pulling the plug on them is not something we take lightly.
In addition to the bonspiel cancellations, the final days of league play next week have also been cancelled.
There is much more to say surrounding the ending of what has been to this point a very successful season here at the Club, but for the moment, please stay healthy and enjoy the earlier-than-planned off-season.
The Club will have office hours on a shortened schedule over the next two weeks as we wind down: 10am – 4pm through the week. This weekend – the Club will be closed except for Good Fellows Cafe, which will continue their regular hours for the future.
Bonspiel teams affected by this announcement will have the opportunity to be refunded in full, or have their entries carried over to next season. Please watch for more information coming from the organizers of both the Thunderbird and the Sooo Long.
